Family and Children Photographer | Family of Three

With all this warm weather coming this weekend, I thought it was fitting to post some images from a session I photographed on a warm June morning. Now, we’re not reaching June temperatures, but for February, we are going to be in for a treat.

I met this beautiful family at Horner Park. Their little girl was turning one and mom and dad wanted to make sure they had images to commemorate the important milestone. Her smile made this already sunny day, even brighter.

This very happy 6 month old came by the studio and made my job very easy. He was so cooperative and happy, that I was able to get great shots in the first 20 minutes. It didn’t matter if he was sitting up or on his back, the smiles were endless. They were very contagious, too!

It’s not too often that I have the opportunity to photograph a 5 month old. I usually see the brand new babies at the newborn session and again in 6 months. Then there’s the ever so important 1 year photos. On occasion, I’ll photograph a baby every 3 months. Capturing all those little changes throughout the months.

I visited this adorable 5 month old at his house. We first got a few shots in mom and dad’s room. Where there was great light pouring in through the sliding glass doors.

We then checked out the baby’s room. I wasn’t sure how he would like being in his crib when it wasn’t nap time. He really didn’t mind and we even got a game of peek-a-boo in, while finishing our session together.

Having a February birthday has always been a bit of a drag. As a kid, it would have been nice to celebrate a birthday in the great outdoors. Something about party games and cake cutting in freezing temperatures just never seemed very appealing.

So, it was nice to celebrate this little guys first birthday, with a cake smash session in his very own backyard. It was a beautiful, warm, May day.

We first grabbed a few shots inside before the cake began to fly outside. No one makes a bow tie look better then this cutie.

A cake smash session can go in any many directions. You may have a child that loves the taste of cake and frosting, so much so, they don’t even care about the feel of the stickiness between their fingers and toes. Then there are those that try to enjoy the sweetness, but just can’t get past the goo and grossness of it all. This 1 year old tried to have fun, but like his mother (my sister-in-law), could not handle the mess.

I’m sure my nephew will not appreciate these images when he’s older. I, on the other hand, will cherish them.

I’m pretty bias when it comes to this little guy. Not only did he do an amazing job taking his two year pictures, but he’s also my nephew. The smiles and laughter were priceless. Considering I got the most serious looks during his newborn session, this happy face was a beam of sunlight.

A Fun Fall Fantasy Session

When my youngest daughter came into the world, it became very obvious, which side of the family she resembled. Those ears had to come from somewhere. They were a gift from her Grandpa Roche. Luckily for me, it skipped a generation.

It’s not like they are large ears. They are actually very proportionate to her head size. They just happen to stick out a little further. From the time she was a baby, she reminded me of a little elf or pixie fairy.

So, it was very fitting when I came across a costume at Marshalls last year, that was basically a woodland fairy outfit. I had grand visions of placing my daughter in the middle of the park surrounded by the changing leaves and looking so darn cute. It was going to be magical. However, the weather had other plans.

Once the leaves were in full fall color, the temperatures were uncomfortably cold. There was no way I was going to get the three year old to look pixie like while she froze her little tush off. So, the costume went into the closet, with little hope of seeing daylight again.

Well, on October 27th, the temperature was in the low 70s, there was very little wind, I had a rather happy 4 year old and the leaves were still looking amazing. I was going to make my vision a reality. Even if it meant I had to squeeze my daughter into last year’s costume.

As you can see, she had a fun time imagining she was a woodland fairy and I really enjoyed created a make believe world for her.

Everyone should have a little pixie dust in their photo sessions!
